Located on thirty-three acres of the original campus of Mercer University, Penfield Christian Home is situated in Greene County about thirty miles south of Athens, Georgia. The old president's home serves as housing for several staff members. The fifty-bed dormitory provides shelter, kitchen, and class space for the rehabilitation ministry.
The Home The ministry of "Reclaiming Alcoholics and Drug Addicts through Christ and Christian Love" began on January 2, 1979 as a ministry sponsored by the Georgia Baptist Association. There were several years of preparation. The program was expanded in June 1985, when the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention joined with the Georgia Baptist Association in cooperative sponsorship. The board of trustees was expanded from seven to thirty members from across Georgia. The program director and assistant program director are on the staff of the Special Missions Ministries of the Georgia Baptist Convention. | |
